SEASONAL FORAGING SERIES
Summer
Growth & Abundance
Summer is a season of abundance. Berries ripen, flowers bloom, and medicinal plants reach their peak. Together we'll learn to identify, harvest, and care for the landscape while deepening our relationship with the natural world.
What Summer Teaches
Summer is the season when the landscape is generous. Fruits ripen, flowers bloom, insects become active, and medicinal plants reach their peak. With abundance comes responsibility. Learning to forage in summer means paying attention to timing, practicing restraint, harvesting with gratitude, and recognizing that we share the landscape with countless other living beings.
Rather than simply gathering plants, we learn to observe relationshipsbetween plants, wildlife, weather, and ourselves. Every walk becomes an opportunity to deepen our ecological awareness and build a lasting relationship with the places we call home
During Summer We Practice:

Learn to confidently recognize common edible and medicinal summer plants.
🍒 Ethical Harvesting

🤝 Reciprocity with Nature

🌿 Summer Plant Spotlight
Watch how summer unfolds
Each plant has a story to tell. Learn how to identify it, where it grows, when to harvest it, and how people have worked with it for generations. Summer reveals itself one plant at a time. By paying attention to what is emerging, ripening, flowering, and fading, we begin to read the landscape as a living calendar. These are some of the plants that mark the progression of summer in our region.
Fragrant Sumac
One of the earliest berries of summer, signaling the beginning of wild fruit season.

Wineberry
As summer warms, these bright berries become one of the season's sweetest rewards.

Calalloo
An abundant leafy green that reminds us summer begins with nourishment.

Black Cherry
An important native tree offering food, medicine, and habitat while marking midsummer.

Cornellian Cherry
A remarkable fruit whose tart flavor and medicinal qualities deepen as the season progresses.

Blue Vervain
A graceful midsummer wildflower that reminds us medicine is often found where water and sunlight meet.

Elderberry
Flowers give way to dark berries that have long been treasured for food and seasonal wellness.

Goldenrod
One of the final blooms of summer, Goldenrod announces that the landscape is preparing for autumn while continuing to nourish countless pollinators.

"The landscape is always speaking. The more we return, the more we begin to understand its language."
